This name is derived from the Traverse City, Michigan cherries that will be used in the brewing process in conjunction with a play on words related to the five Great Lakes that are associated with the State of Michigan.
Style: American Dark Lager (Cherry Tart Lager)
Style Descriptions: The American Dark Lager is basically a dark pale lager that has a residual sweetness from the caramel malts and lightly roasted notes from the coloring of the malt. We will be pushing the boundaries by adding cherries which will add a fruitier flavor along with a hint of lime juice for an even more unique flavor.
Aroma: There is little to no malt aroma and a medium-low to no roast and caramel malt aroma. The hop aroma may range from none to light spicy or a floral hop presence. It can have low levels of yeast character (green apples, DMS, or fruitiness). There is no diacetyl. There is a light fruit smell of lime and cherry.
Flavor: The flavor is moderately crisp with some low to moderate levels of sweetness. There is medium-low to no caramel and/or roasted malt flavors (may include hints of coffee, molasses or cocoa). The hop flavor ranges from none to low levels. The hop bitterness is at low to medium levels. There is no diacetyl. It may have a very light fruitiness. Burnt or moderately strong roasted malt flavors are a defect. A little flavor hint of cherry.
Taste Notes:
Mouth Feel: Light to somewhat medium body. Smooth, although a highly-carbonated beer.
Overall Impression: A somewhat sweeter version of a standard/premium lager with a little more body and flavor. It is lightly hopped and has a little more body and flavor due to the addition of the cherries and lime juice.
